The government on Tuesday welcomed a decision by the national electricity provider HEP to reduce the wholesale price of gas by 8.1%, saying that it will lead to a reduction of costs for numerous families.

By reducing the wholesale price of gas by 8.1%, HEP allows providers to additionally lower gas prices for households compared to the new price determined by the Croatian Energy Regulatory Agency. We welcome HEP's decision which will reduce the cost of gas for numerous Croatian families and is part of the continuing measures that we are undertaking to improve living standards for Croatian citizens, the government told Hina.

HEP has defined the new wholesale price of gas for the period from 1 April 2020 to 31 March 2021 which will be 8.1% lower than the current prices, HEP said on Tuesday.

The new price will amount to HRK 0.1825 per kilowatt hour (kn/kWh).

HERA defined a maximum price for that same period that HEP as the appointed wholesale gas supplier can charge gas providers.

An amount of 0.1924 kn/kWh is a 3% decrease on the current wholesale price and will enable the average price for households to be reduced by about 1% as of April 1. Considering the favourable gas price projections on the market, HEP has decided to reduce the wholesale price by an additional 5.1%, which will lead to lower costs for households.
