The Ministry of Justice issued a statement on Monday regarding the case of multiple rape of a minor, strongly condemning every form of violence and saying that it would closely monitor the judicial process.

The statement came after five young men from the Zadar area were detained on suspicion of the gang rape of a 15-year-old girl. They were questioned in the Zadar County Prosecutor's Office, but the investigating judge released them from custody ordering them not to communicate with the victim and to report to the police station twice a month.

The County Prosecutor's Office has announced an appeal against the investigating judge's decision.

"The Ministry of Justice strongly condemns every form of violence, in particular crimes against sexual freedom committed against minors. We persevere in the fight against all forms of violence and consequently we plan to amend criminal legislation and tighten criminal policy and penalties for crimes relating to violence in general, and in particular domestic violence, violence against women and children," the ministry said.

The ministry said it would closely monitor the further course of the criminal process.
