Deputy Prime Minister Karamarko confident government has stable majority in legislature

Deputy Prime Minister Karamarko has told the national radio (HR) that the government enjoys support from the majority in the parliament, adding that the ruling majority will seriously address an interpellation to be submitted by the Opposition.

"We will seriously consider the interpellation. This should be discussed, but we have the majority (in the parliament) and this is a stable majority," Karamarko told the radio on Wednesday morning.

The Deputy PM admitted that he was not satisfied with a pace of work of the cabinet in the first 100 days of its term, however, he ascribed it to "a specific political configuration" in the government, explaining that that period had been spent on negotiations between the HDZ-led Patriotic Coalition and the Bridge reformist party.

"The government has embarked on reforms, and I believe that we will have things to boast of ."

Karamarko said that the top priority would be given to facilitating quality investments and to job creation.

He is sure that the first results of the reforms would be perceptible after a few good investments that have already started.

As for the state administration reform, Karamarko said that the HDZ would not allow the reduction of the number of counties.

"They make up some 2.9% of expenditures from the state budget, they can be digitalised or rationalised, but their number won't be reduced."

As for the candidacy of former Croatian Foreign Minister Vesna Pusic for the new UN Secretary-General, Karamarko said that the current government had not discussed this matter and that Pusic's nomination was the proposal of the previous government.
