Government says to make sure Croatia feels consequences of Brexit as little as possible
The government regrets Great Britain's decision to leave the EU, the caretaker government said, noting that in cooperation with other EU member-countries, it would do its best to keep the EU strong and united and see to it that Croatia feels the consequences of Brexit as little as possible.
Brexit is beyond a doubt the biggest blow to Europe's unity since its inception and for us an especially sensitive issue at a time when the EU is expanding to Croatia's neighbours, said the government.
It said that it should not be forgotten that the EU "was never only a mix of strict rules and paragraphs as it might have seemed to us sometimes during the long accession process, but that it successfully epitomises a noble idea about peace and cooperation after centuries of conflict on its soil."
"Nothing has changed with this decision of British citizens. We believe that the United Kingdom will remain a good and correct partner to the EU and that the high goals of united Europe, a Europe of joint work, security and stability still have no alternative," the government said.
