Plenković at the EPC meeting: Illegal migration had the greatest consequences for the political architecture of Europe
It is necessary for the countries in Eastern Europe to harmonize their visa regime policies because, according to the Ministry of Interior data, we note that 40 percent of illegal migrants who want to cross the green border actually arrived in our neighbouring countries at airports as tourists, Prime Minister Plenković warned again today at a meeting of the European Political Community, saying that this fact must be adequately addressed at the European level.
Prime Minister Andrej Plenković attended the 5th European Political Community Summit in Budapest today, where European leaders are discussing European security challenges, including Russia's aggression against Ukraine, escalation in the Middle East, illegal migration, and issues of economic security and connectivity in the context of energy, transport, IT, and global trade. The European Political Community, Prime Minister Plenković said in a statement to the media, is a broader format for European leaders than the European Council, which will also hold a meeting in Budapest, and everything is being organized within the framework of the Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
He added that the meeting was also attended by Ukrainian President Zelensky and Turkish President Erdoğan.

In addition to the plenary session, Prime Minister Plenković also participated in a round table entitled "Migration", alongside the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Kieran Starmer, who chaired the discussion, and the leaders and representatives of Denmark, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and the European Council.
They spoke, he reported, about the problems of illegal migration faced by different parts of Europe.
"Illegal migration, if we look at it realistically, has had the greatest consequences on the political architecture of Europe in the last ten years," he emphasized.
European leaders also discussed cooperation with the United States and the new administration of President-elect Trump. Prime Minister Plenković said that in this cooperation, the EU would rely on its strong elements, which is a union of 440 million people, developed democracies and economies that wants, based on common values, to be a global leader in cooperation with America and contribute to resolving numerous crisis situations.
