Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic at Government House on Tuesday held a meeting with the prefects of five northern counties about setting up a Council for Central and Northwestern Croatia, similar to the one for the Eastern Slavonia region, an initiative supported by both the state and regional governments.

The prefects Damir Bajs of Bjelovar-Bilogora County, Radimir Cacic of Varazdin County, Matija Posavec of Medjimurje County, Darko Koren of Koprivnica-Krizevci County and Zeljko Kolar of Krapina-Zagorje County said the PM accepted the initiative and announced a meeting about this for late January or early February 2018.

Regional Development and EU Funds Minister Gabrijela Zalac said the government was trying to ensure that all areas in the country were developed equally.

Finance Minister Zdravko Maric said that amendments to the law on the financing of local and regional self government units would mean a simpler and fairer distribution of income tax revenues.
