Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic on Thursday recalled that Croatia would on 15 January observe the 25th anniversary of its international recognition, and said that 15 January 1992 was an important day for Croatia's international affirmation.

"It is also the day of the completion of the peaceful reintegration of the Croatian Danube area," Plenkovic said at a government session, referring to the United Nations Transitional Administration in Eastern Slavonia, Baranja and Western Sirmium, which was established on 15 January 1996 by the United Nations Security Council in its resolution 1037 and which  concluded its mandate on 15 January 1998, having accomplished its key objective of peacefully reintegrating that area into Croatia within the prescribed time frame of two years.

Celebrations of the historic days include concerts on Sunday and a special session of the national parliament on Monday.

Also on Monday, European Council President Donald Tusk will arrive in Zagreb, and PM Plenkovic said that they would discuss topical issues from the European Union agenda.

As for Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic's recent visit to the USA, Plenkovic said: "I am glad to see that the president has come back from her trip to the USA, we spoke yesterday, she informed me about the highlights (of the trip) which are useful."
