PM Plenkovic: There are 50,000 more employed than 2 years ago and 25,000 more than last year

Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic said on Tuesday that despite the fact that people were emigrating from Croatia, today there are 50,000 more people employed than two years ago and 25,000 more than were employed last year.

The Pension Insurance Institute's data indicates that the number of insurees has been over 1.5 million for several months now which shows that the number of the employed is growing, Plenkovic told reporters, commenting on a statement by President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic that the reason unemployment was falling was because people were emigrating out of the country.

"When it comes to Croatian Employment Service figures, then the number of the unemployed is about 171,000 depending on when school leavers register," he added.

He admitted that Croatia is faced with the problem of people emigrating but that relevant data indicates that today there are 50,000 people more employed than there were two years ago and 25,000 more than last year, despite the fact that some people had left Croatia.

Some people left Croatia considering the possibilities and the mobility that exist, but the government has taken numerous measures and HRK 2 billion was invested in employment programmes. "The number of youth unemployment has fallen from 50% a few years ago to 34% today. The fact is that the situation on the employment market is improving," Plenkovic underscored.

He added that the activities the government was taking to increase employment were constant and that data the government is quoting are reliable and precise and that he stands behind them.
