PM Plenkovic: We are grateful to all those who gave their lives for Croatia, as well as to Tudjman's visionary policy

Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic on Sunday, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Croatia's international recognition, laid wreaths at the Altar of the Homeland in Medvedgrad and at Zagreb's central Mirogoj cemetery.

Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic on Sunday, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Croatia's international recognition, laid wreaths at the Altar of the Homeland in Medvedgrad and at Zagreb's central Mirogoj cemetery, expressing his gratitude to all those who gave their lives for independent and internationally recognised Croatia, as well as to the first Croatian President Franjo Tudjman and his visionary policy.

Croatia is a free country which achieved its national goals and it is the responsibility of new generations to promote society, Plekovic said, recalling that along the 25th anniversary of its international recognition Croatia today was also marking the 19th anniversary of the peaceful reintegration of its Danube River region.

Plenkovic said his government was working on having less divisions in society. "We are working on dialogue, culture of a broad social consensus on fundamental tasks and on improving economic and social conditions so as to reduce the number of people who live on the verge of poverty and to help them get more included in society."

"Franjo Tudjman, Plenkovic said, "achieved a thousand-year old dream of the Croat people by having Croatia get international recognition and independence  (...)," Plenkovic said.

Asked about the procurement of the combat squadron and modernisation of the the Croatian Armed Forces, the prime minister said that the Defence Ministry budged for the needs of the Armed Forces had been increased.
