The Research and Development Centre of telecommunications equipment manufacturer Ericsson Nikola Tesla (ENT) formally opened its office in the eastern city of Osijek on Friday.

"The decision by a private company, which could have chosen any part of Croatia, to open this Research and Development Centre in Osijek, sends a message of support to the University of Osijek, the City of Osijek and the general climate here, that this part of Croatia has a future," Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic said at the opening ceremony.

He said that the government had prepared the "Slavonia, Baranja and Srijem" project for five counties in eastern Croatia which had been devastated in the 1991-1995 war of independence and were still plagued by problems of social, developmental and demographic nature.
