High-level state delegations laid wreaths at Zagreb's Mirogoj Cemetery on Friday, marking Victory and Homeland Thanksgiving Day, Croatian War Veterans' Day and the 22nd anniversary of Operation Storm.

The government delegation was headed by Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic and included Veterans' Affairs Minister Tomo Medved and Defence Minister Damir Krsticevic.

The Croatian Parliament delegation was led by Speaker Gordan Jandrokovic, while President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic sent her envoy, Maja Cavlovic.

Plenkovic said they were here today to express their gratitude, because Operation Storm had ended the war and brought peace, adding that the government would do the same in Knin on Saturday.

Reporters asked the prime minister to comment on charges filed by the Documenta nongovernmental organisation for crimes committed in villages outside Knin in the aftermath of Operation Storm, namely between August 5 and 8, 1995. Plenkovic said the Croatian government is looking after the dignity of the Homeland War and everything that Croatia is based on.

"At the same time, Croatia is a democratic country and a country where freedom of speech and activities of all associations are possible," Plenkovic said.
