Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic on Monday met with Microsoft's Chief Executive Officer, Steve Ballmer, for talks on development of the IT sector in Croatia and the world.
Microsoft has developed a large partner-like eco system with more than 1100 companies and offers support for independent software companies in Croatia. Around 46% of jobs in the IT sector in Croatia are related to Microsoft technology, the press release notes.
After the meeting with the prime minister, Ballmer signed an Education Transformation Agreement (ETA) with Minister of Science, Education and Sports Zeljko Jovanovic, which aims at upgrading Croatia's education system. The agreement supplements the existing curriculum with modern IT tools and solutions. Part of the agreement relates to around 550,000 students in schools and universities, teachers and professors to have free access to the Office 365 system.
Croatia has, thus, joined countries that facilitate teachers and students to have access "to superior tools in cloud which offer better efficiency."
"Stronger introduction of new and particularly IT technologies will facilitate the transformation of Croatia's education, boost innovations and develop skills necessary for employment in the 21st century and in that way increase Croatia's competitiveness on the global market," Minister Jovanovic said.
