The European Union initiative "Youth on the Move", which aims to extend opportunities for learning and employment mobility to all young people in Europe, was presented on Wednesday in Zagreb's main square.
Opening the event, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Social Policy and Youth Milanka Opacic said that this was an opportunity for young people to exchange information on good practice in educating the young who have similar problems when it comes to unemployment, education systems and life-long learning. She recalled that Croatia was to become a member of the EU in a few days, saying this does not mean that young people will leave Croatia but that they would have the opportunity for quality education.
Minister of Science, Education and Sports Zeljko Jovanovic also supported the project and said that with the assistance of the European Commission, this action wishes to improve the quality of education and training through increased quality and mobility. Our entry into the EU will offer the young better education and improve their employability so that they can return to Croatia with new professions which can make our country more competitive, he said.
European Commissioner for Education, Training, Culture and Youth Jan Truszczynski congratulated Croatia on its forthcoming accession to the EU, saying that this was a historic moment for Croatia and the EU, which will be enlarged to 28 members.
