The Croatian government decided at its session on Thursday to issue a public call for expression of interest in the construction and reconstruction of a tourism complex in Kupari near Dubrovnik.
The call is non-binding, while binding offers will be invited after the updating of the land register. An investor is expected to be selected in the first quarter of the year.
The plan is to build and rebuild the existing complex of four hotels devastated during the 1991-1995 war, with a concession to be granted for 99 years. The hotels would have a total accommodation capacity of not more than 1,500 beds, and the project is estimated at 200 million euros.
Interested domestic and foreign investors were invited to address their letters with expression of interest to the State Property Management Office no later than 30 days after the publication of the call, which will be made public on the websites of the Office and the Tourism Ministry.
Tourism Minister Darko Lorencin said that a call for expression of interest was the first and important step in an investment cycle, both for Kupari and for the entire tourism sector because this project would have a positive impact on the competitiveness of the Croatian tourism industry.
