Enterprise Minister Gordan Maras said on Thursday that he expected the "Business Impulse" programme to create 5,000 new jobs and set up 205 new businesses in 2014.
The "Business Impulse" programme, with HRK 1.26 billion set aside for that purpose this year, was presented at a government meeting earlier in the day.
The minister said he was hopeful that the number of exporters eligible for grants under this programme would increase by 200.
The government on Thursday adopted the programme of subsidising enterprises and crafts for 2014 -- "Business Impulse" - with measures aimed at encouraging the development of small and medium-sized businesses eligible for funds from the state budget and European Union structural funds.
A total of HRK 413.8 million will be set aside in grants, of which HRK 279 million will come from European funds.
Maras explained that the Business Impulse budget would make no burden on the state budget.
Nearly one billion kuna from this programme would be spent on investments into property and equity, which does not amount to deficit under international standards, according to the minister's explanation.
