Govt. adopts decisions on tender for oil, gas exploration in Adriatic

The government on Thursday adopted three decisions enabling a public bidding for permits to explore and exploit hydrocarbons in the Adriatic Sea, for which a tender will be issued on April 2.

Deputy Economy Minister Alen Leveric recalled that 29 exploration fields had been identified in the Adriatic and that interest in them was big. He said 20 companies had expressed interest so far in seismic data for the Croatian part of the sea.

Under the government's decisions, the tender will be carried out and the bids assessed by an expert commission. The bids may be submitted within six months, after which the commission will have two months to award permits.

Bidders will be required to provide, among other things a EUR 500,000 bank guarantee, a programme of minimum investment in seismic exploration, propose the number of boreholes, and a contract-signing fee.
