Government adopts plan to reduce number of state agencies

The government on Thursday adopted an action plan to reduce the number of state agencies, bureaus, funds and other legal entities with public authority to cut their operating costs, and a decision to establish a commission for the rationalisation of that system.

The government decided two weeks ago to cut the number of state agencies from 57 to 48 by year's end to cut costs.

By merging several agencies, their operating costs in 2016 would be cut by HRK 24.35 million (approx. EUR 3.2 million).

Public Administration Minister Arsen Bauk said that during the merging, attention would be paid so as not to bring into question the process of accreditation for the management of European Union funds.

He said the merging was part of a national reform programme the government had sent to the European Commission and that the merging would require changing 11 laws and ten regulations.
