Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic announced a possibility of drawing up an entirely new distress bill this autumn, given the numerous amendments to the existing law.
The amendments will make the procedure easier for distrainees, Justice Minister Drazen Bosnjakovic said, adding that there were 330,000 people in Croatia with blocked bank accounts.
Under the government-sponsored amendments, the distress procedure cannot be launched on any real estate if the capital amount owed is less than HRK 20,000.
The amendments will also enable courts to rule in favour of distrainees, even if the capital amount exceeds HRK 20,000.
