68th Dubrovnik Summer Festival opens

The 68th annual Dubrovnik Summer Festival, the theme of which is freedom, opened in the southern Adriatic city on Monday evening with the freedom anthem and the raising of the festival's Libertas flag.

Until August 25, more than 15 locations around the city will be a meeting place for about 2,000 artists from all over the world and a domestic and international audience of some 60,000.

Numerous senior officials attended the opening ceremony, including Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic, who said afterwards that this year's theme, freedom, "is typical of Dubrovnik and the (former) Republic of Ragusa and the cultural heritage they left us."
