Croatian PM Plenkovic meets IMF exec Christine Lagarde

Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic in Dubrovnik on Monday held talks with International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Christine Lagarde about the macroeconomic situation in Croatia and measures that are being implemented so as to preserve the financial stability and sustainability of public finances.

The talks also focused on government activities and efforts to accelerate the growth rate and increase employment, the government said in a press release.

Plenkovic briefed the IMF executive about the National Reform Programme 2017 as the fundamental document in the implementation of structural reforms, stressing that Croatia's leaving the Excessive Deficit Procedure was proof of the government's responsible fiscal policy.

The two officials agreed it was necessary to continue to implement the rational policy in managing public finances, which is one of the prerequisites for joining the eurozone and implementing the euro currency.

The meeting was also attended by Deputy prime Minister and Economy and Enterprise Minister Martina Dalic.
