Addressing reporters outside the government headquarters after he put a wreath on a plaque commemorating an attack of Yugoslav People's Army (JNA) planes on the government building 26 years ago, Plenkovic said the planned visit was one of the most important events in his life, to coincide with the first year of his government's term.
"I expect messages of encouragement from (Pope Francis), I plan to invite him to visit Croatia, I expect us to discuss the finalisation of the canonisation of the Blessed Alojzije Stepinac and other issues that are important for closer relations between the Holy See and Croatia."
During the visit to the Vatican, Plenkovic will also meet the Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin and visit St. Peter's Basilica.
Plenkovic will start his visit on Friday evening by meeting with representatives of the Croat community in the Vatican.
