The Croatian government and the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) want the number of cases from Croatia to be as low as possible, Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic and ECHR president Guido Raimondi said in Zagreb on Thursday.
They talked about the work of the Strasbourg-based court and the number of cases from Croatia and "expressed a wish that the number of those cases in the future would be as low as possible," the Croatian government said in a press release.
Plenkovic supported the work of the ECHR as well as the European Union's approach to the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms.
Raimondi is scheduled to meet Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic later on Thursday. He will also attend a round table debate on the 20 years of Croatia's representation at the ECHR.
The ECHR is an international court established in 1959 to ensure the enforcement and implementation of the European Convention on Human Rights in the Council of Europe member states. Croatia ratified the Convention in 1997.
