Plenkovic attends "Following the Cross" procession taking place on Maundy Thursday on Hvar

Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic took part in the "Following the Cross", a Catholic procession that is held every Maundy Thursday on the island of Hvar, and this centuries-old pious custom was added added to UNESCO's intangible heritage list in 2009.

The faithful in the procession walk through six villages on Hvar: Jelsa, Pitve, Vrisnik, Svirce, Vrbanj and Vrboska, in a unique 25-kilometre-long ceremony of a special piety during eight hours in late Thursday night and on early Friday before Easter.

Plenkovic was accompanied his relatives and family during the procession, given that his father was born in Svirce and Andrej Plenkovic's paternal ancestry is from Hvar.

"It is nice to be here and be with my family, friends and local inhabitants and reflect on Easter," Plenkovic said in his comment on the procession with meditations on the Passion of Christ.
