The bill also stipulates that subsidies are not approved for beneficiaries who have already exercised that right. It also better defines the status of minors as household members for whom additional subsidies are approved, Physical Planning, Construction and State Assets Minister Darko Horvat explained.
A total of HRK 50 million has been secured for the subsidies that will be approved through a public call for applications in 2021, he underlined, adding that the same amount has been secured for 2022 and 2023.
The government-financed housing loan subsidies help in mortgage repayments for a period of five years.
The programme was first introduced in 2017 and calls for applications are advertised each year. In 2020 there were two calls for applications.
In the four years that the programme has been implemented a total of 16,611 applications have been approved and more than two thousand children have been born in families receiving the subsidies.
The last call for applications alone, with a deadline of October 19, received 4,651 applications.
It is estimated that for the said law to be efficient it is necessary to subsidise about 4,000 mortgages in one calendar year, with the maximum amount of subsidies per flat or house totalling HRK 750,000.
