Besides the revenue generated by foreign tourists, the revenue generated by domestic tourists also contributed to the total results, Brnjac told Hina, without estimating the latter.
Asked about the revenue expected or forecast for this year, she said she expected it to be higher than in 2020, provided the epidemiological situation is favourable in Croatia and abroad, and as a result of the activities the ministry is undertaking "to ensure optimal conditions for tourists."
The central bank said today the travel and tourism revenue from foreign tourists in 2020 was €4.8 billion, down 54.3% on 2019 (€10.5 billion). In Q4, the revenue was €467 million (€1.1bn in Q4 2019).
Since 2000, tourism revenue increased almost every year, even during the 2008 and 2009 global crisis. In 2020, it returned to the level recorded in 2004 (€4.6bn).
Last year saw 7.8 million arrivals and 54.5 million overnights, down 37.5% and 50% on 2019 respectively.
