New indexation raises pensions by 2.5%. In the last 5 years the lowest pensions increased by 23%

Labour, Pension System, Family and Social Policy Minister Josip Aladrović said on Friday that owing to indexation, pensions would increase by 2.5% and the average pension by a little over HRK 68.

"Today we received the state statistical office's data on price trends and pay trends based on which we formed an indexation of almost 2.5%," he told the press in Split.

As of 1 July, the average pension is HRK 68 higher, he said, adding that this was the highest pension increase based on indexation since 2018. The higher pensions, for August plus the difference for July, will be paid in September.

"We can be satisfied with this indexation. It's a result of the 2019 pension reform and the government's work, as all these indicators are linked to the economic trends in Croatia," Aladrović said.

Asked if an average pensioner could be satisfied with a HRK 68 rise, the minister said that  question was raised about every indexation, but that the government was doing its best for the increase to be higher.

"Data show that we have relatively high indexations, notably in relation to past periods, and we will do everything for that to be so in the future as well."

Aladrović said the government would redefine inadequate pensions, such as family pensions, which will soon be higher as a result of a new model.

He said that in the past five years the lowest pension went up by more than 23%, the average pension by 18%, and that in the past year pensions went up by almost 5%.
