Plenković: Fast road to Bjelovar and Virovitica priority for this government

The remaining 12 kilometres of the fast road from Farkaševac to Bjelovar will be completed during the term of this government and certainly before the next local election, Prime Minister Andrej Plenković said on Wednesday.

He was speaking at a meeting of the Bjelovar City Council, held at the Barutana 91 memorial area on the occasion of the city's day and the Day of Bjelovar Veterans, with Minister of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure Oleg Butković and Minister of Regional Development and EU Funds Nataša Tramišak attending.

Plenković said that the completion of the fast road to Bjelovar and the continuation of constructing the route to Virovitica is one of Croatia's priorities in transport.

He recalled that during the COVID pandemic the government had assisted Bjelovar-Bilogora County with HRK 209 million and in that way prevented jobs from being lost and a wave of bankruptcies.

"After we saved jobs during the coronavirus pandemic, now it's time to create them. In that context, Bjelovar-Bilogora County has a great opportunity to develop within the framework of the North Project, worth HRK 15 billion, which has been prepared on the example of the Slavonia Project, and Minister Tramišak is the main coordinator," underscored Plenković.

He announced that a solution would be found to the repayment of a loan for the construction of a new building of Bjelovar's hospital because the loan is burdening the county budget.

Bjelovar Mayor Dario Hrebak underscored that Bjelovar is among 10 per cent of the most successful cities in Croatia with regard to absorbing European funds, underscoring agglomeration as one of the most important projects, valued at HRK 257 million. It is followed by the reconstruction of Culture House valued at HRK 20 million and the construction of a kindergarten valued at HRK 8 million.
