Plenković: Nataša Mikuš Žigman has dedicated her career to the very topics in the department she will lead

In the opening part of today's 106th session of the Government, Prime Minister Andrej Plenković presented the candidate for the future Minister of Regional Development and European Union Funds, Nataša Mikuš Žigman, who has extensive experience in topics from that department, and was the head of the Central Finance and Contracting Agency and State Secretary in the Ministry of Economy.

"She has dedicated her entire career, among other things, to managing the processes that enable us, as a member of the European Union, to develop Croatia evenly, using European funds," the Prime Minister emphasized, expressing his satisfaction that another woman is joining the Government.

After successfully fully absorbing the funds from the 2014-2020 financial perspective and from the Solidarity Fund, we are effectively using the funds from the Next Generation EU Instrument, we expect to accelerate absorption from the current 2021-2027 perspective and successful negotiations for the new 2028-2024 perspective.

He thanked the previous Minister Šime Erlić, who took over as Mayor of Zadar after winning the elections, and State Secretary Zrinka Raguž, who led the Ministry in the meantime.

We are strengthening the potential and strength of the Croatian Armed Forces in line with the new global security circumstances

On today's agenda of the Government session is a large package of acts related to defense policy, the Prime Minister said.

These are the Defense Strategy, the Long-Term Development Plan of the Armed Forces, and the Defense Act and the Act on Service in the Armed Forces.

The Defense Strategy and the Long-Term Development Plan were previously discussed at a session of the Defense Council and underwent public consultation.

"We believe that these documents are very necessary given the significantly changed global security circumstances," emphasized Prime Minister Plenković, adding that it is crucial to adapt these documents to current policy and the current defense needs of the Armed Forces.

The two laws that are being submitted to the Croatian Parliament today also reflect the need for changes in light of new challenges.

He believes that the most interesting thing in the parliamentary debate will be the introduction of basic military training.

He recalled that Croatia has suspended military service since 2008, and in this way, he said, with well-calibrated and adapted basic military training, we are creating the prerequisites for the young generation to acquire the necessary skills and strengthening the potential and strength of the Croatian Army, with continued great focus and emphasis on a professional army.

Determining the fate of victims of crimes committed immediately after World War II

He also highlighted the Decision on the establishment of the Commission for determining the fate of victims of crimes committed immediately after World War II, which will be led by the Deputy Speaker of the Croatian Parliament, Ivan Penava.

The Commission will also include representatives of the Office of the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Croatian Veterans, the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Culture and Media, the State Archives and the Croatian Institute of History.

We believe that this is one of those great tasks that has remained unfinished, and therefore we expect the contribution of this Commission, which will report on its work to the Government.

Every victim demands to be shown dignity, said Prime Minister Plenković.
