He added that the Government proposed and systematically lobbied for the candidacy of Boris Vujčić, to which the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Marko Primorac and Croatian diplomacy, and in particular the Permanent Representation of Croatia to the European Union, made significant contributions.
Plenković also wrote that Vujčić's nomination for the second highest position in the European Central Bank also represents recognition for Croatia as a new member of the euro area, which, despite numerous global challenges, has preserved economic and financial stability.
He particularly emphasized that Boris Vujčić is the first candidate for Vice-President of the European Central Bank from among the new member states of the European Union and the first from Central and Eastern Europe. Finally, he thanked the member states of the euro area for their support for the Croatian candidate.
