Curran informed the prime minister of trends in the audiovisual industry in Europe and the world and of the challenges that sector is faced with during a period of digital transformation.
He expressed EBU's readiness to actively participate in the preparation of Croatia's chairmanship of the European Union in 2020 with regard to audiovisual sector policies, which is actively being worked on by Culture Minister Nina Obuljen Korzinek.
Plenkovic emphasised that it was important for public broadcasters to retain their influence and reach all audiences, particularly the young who grow up with digital platforms.
He also expressed support for the efforts of EBU and similar organisations with regard to regulations and the fight against fake news because of the specific role of public broadcasters, the press release said.
