Plenkovic met witH the two prime ministers on the last day of a European People's Party (EPP) congress in Zagreb at which the new leadership of that biggest European political group in the European Parliament was elected.
Plenkovic and Mitsotakis expressed satisfaction with what they described as excellent political relations between Croatia and Greece as two Mediterranean, partner countries in the EU and NATO and called for stronger economic cooperation, notably in transport, shipping industry, tourism and culture, as well as for stronger trade.
Plenkovic and Borisov put emphasis on the promotion of economic cooperation, prevention of illegal migrations, and their countries' bid to join the Schengen area.
Speaking of the priorities of Croatia's EU presidency in the first half of 2020, Plenkovic said that a summit meeting would be held in Zagreb in May 2020 and that the event would be used to raise again the issue of EU enlargement dynamic after the opening of membership talks with North Macedonia and Albania was blocked.
Borisov said he believed that the summit would contribute greatly to stability and to giving Southeast European countries a prospect of EU membership.
