PM Plenkovic: Croatia has requested that arbitration ruling in Croatia-MOL case be quashed

Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic confirmed on Wednesday that Croatia had asked that the December 23 ruling of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) Arbitral Tribunal, which dismissed as unfounded Croatia's claims against the Hungarian oil and gas group MOL regarding the jointly owned oil company INA, be quashed.

"Through its legal representatives and Swiss lawyers Croatia has requested the quashing of the arbitration ruling," Plenkovic said when asked if Croatia had asked that the ruling be nullified.

Plenkovic said that the motion for quashing the ruling "is based on well-substantiated arguments, and we hope that in the proceedings to last several months, the Swiss federal court will consider those arguments in an appropriate way."

Asked to be more specific about the arguments, Plenkovic said that they concerned "certain aspects of the composition of the tribunal, the right to be interviewed and some details that are not relevant for the public at the moment."

The proceedings before the UNCITRAL Arbitral Tribunal in Geneva between Croatia and MOL Group are confidential in line with UNCITRAL arbitration rules and the agreement reached by the parties to the proceedings.
