Brussels: Uzelac attends conference on European Qualification Framework

With the adoption of guidelines for the drawing up of the Croatian Qualification Framework (CQF), Croatia is keeping the pace with the European Union which s working on the implementation of the decision on the introduction of the European Qualification Framework (EQF), designed to achieve better transparency on the European labour market, Croatian Deputy Prime Minister Slobodan Uzelac said in Brussels on Tuesday.

Uzelac is taking part in a two-day conference in Brussels which is attended by some 230 government representatives, social partners and representatives of the industry sectors. The topic of the event is the implementation of the decision of the Council of the European Union and the European Parliament concerning the European Qualifications Framework (EQF).

Nearly a year ago, the Croatian government adopted the guidelines for drawing up the Croatian Qualification Frameworks. Recently the country started drawing of the CQF which is based on eights fundamental qualification levels. The CQF will develop to encourage lifelong learning, mobility and employment quality.

The EQF is a common European reference framework which links countries' qualifications systems together, acting as a translation device to make qualifications more readable. It has two principal aims: to promote citizens' mobility between countries and to facilitate their lifelong learning.

The EQF was formally adopted by the European Parliament and the Council on 23 April 2008.

The EQF foresees that member states relate their national qualifications systems to the EQF by 2010 and that their qualifications contain a reference to the EQF by 2012. It will therefore enable individuals and employers to use the EQF as a reference tool to compare the qualifications levels of different countries and different education and training systems, for example vocational training and higher education.
