Council for Slavonia, Baranja and Srijem holds second meeting

The Government Council for Slavonia, Baranja and Srijem held its second meeting in the eastern town of Pozega on Monday.

Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic said in his opening remarks that the objective was to combine the efforts of central and local government and the private sector to increase employment and ensure the balanced regional development of Croatia, with the support of EU funding.

The Minister of Regional Development and EU Funds, Gabrijela Zalac, presented the Slavonia, Baranja and Srijem Project, emphasising projects supported by EU structural and investment funds.

Plenkovic said that the heads of northwestern counties had expressed a desire to launch a similar project for northwestern Croatia.

Representatives of the five eastern counties -- Pozega-Slavonia County, Slavonski Brod-Posavina County, Vukovar-Srijem County, Osijek-Baranja County and Virovitica-Podravina County -- presented their strategic development projects.
