Croatia declares Nov 16 day of mourning for Paris attack victims
The Croatian government on Sunday declared November 16 a day of mourning for the victims of the terrorist attacks in Paris.
On that day flags will be at half mast on all government and corporate buildings and no entertainment events will be allowed. Broadcasting networks will adjust their programmes accordingly.
Throughout Croatia sirens will be sounded for 60 seconds at noon on Monday to commemorate the victims, the National Protection and Rescue Directorate said on Sunday.
EU leaders issued a joint statement on Saturday calling on all Europeans to observe a minute of silence on Monday in honour of the victims of the Paris terrorist attacks. "This shameful act of terrorism will only achieve the opposite of its purpose, which was to divide, frighten, and sow hatred," they said. "Good is stronger than evil. Everything that can be done at European level to make France safe will be done."
At least 129 people were killed and over 350 wounded in a string of coordinated terrorist attacks in Paris on Friday night. The Islamic State group has claimed responsibility.
