Croatia recorded 15 million tourist arrivals and 85 million bed-nights in the first eight months of 2017, increases of 14% and 13% respectively compared with the same period in 2016, and this year tourism revenues could exceed last year's record 10 billion euros, Tourism Minister Gari Cappelli said on Wednesday.

"Last year tourism revenues reached about 10 billion euros, and by the end of this year they could increase by 5-7%," Cappelli told a press conference. He said that this year's excellent results were due to good preparations for the season, private and public sector investments, and the efforts of all workers in tourism and related sectors.

In August alone, 4.4 million tourists generated nearly 32 million bed-nights, which are increases of 6% respectively compared with August 2016.

Cappelli said that for the first time in Croatian history the number of bed-nights could get close to 100 million by the end of the year.

The head of the Croatian Tourism Board, Kristjan Stanicic, said that over 500,000 tourists were currently vacationing in Croatia and that the good trends were expected to continue in the post-summer season.
