Croatian PM extends condolences to Germany on Bavaria road accident

Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic has extended condolences to German Chancellor Angela Merkel following a serious road accident in Bavaria on Monday in which many people were killed.

"It is with great sadness that I have received the news of a serious traffic accident in Bavaria that ended in a large number of casualties and fatalities. In these difficult moments, on behalf of the Croatian government and people, I extend my condolences to you, the German people and the families of those killed. We wish all those injured a speedy recovery," Plenkovic said in his message.

Eighteen people are believed to have been killed when a bus crashed into a truck and then burst into flames, police said. The accident occurred on the A9 motorway near Muenchberg. The bus crashed into the back of the truck which was driving slowly because of a traffic jam.

Thirty people have been injured, many seriously. All others, 18 passengers who are unaccounted for, have probably been killed in the burning bus, the police said.
