First Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Karamarko met in Zagreb on Thursday with the Director-General of the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD), Michael Spindelegger, for talks on the migrant crisis.

Karamarko and Spindelegger agreed that a common and coordinated European approach was the best way to help migrants.

Croatia will continue to conduct an active migration policy based on solidarity and humaneness, taking into account public security and national interests, Karamarko said.

The ICMPD is an international organisation established in 1993 and based in Vienna, whose aim is to regulate migration policies and visa and asylum related issues among countries in Western, Eastern and Central Europe. Closely cooperating with the International Organisation for Migration, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, the European Commission and the European Council, it promotes comprehensive migration policies and functions as a service exchange mechanism for governments and organisations.
