Gov't set of measures is timely and strong intervention

Prime Minister Andrej Plenković said on Monday that the cabinet had intervened in a timely manner and strongly with the set of measures and that it would continue with subsidies and energy price caps to enable the Croats to fare better this autumn and winter.

He also said that the entire party leadership had supported the package of measures the government introduced last week to protect households and businesses from the rising energy and food prices.

The prime minister underscored that the most important part of the government's relief scheme was the one related to the price of electricity, so from 1 October 2022 to 31 March  2023, the price of electricity for households will be capped.

He recalled that with the measures they capped the prices of carefully selected food items, which would help households budgets during this crisis, noting that the government's package was also anti-inflationary.

Asked to comment on the fact that some retailers were removing products for which prices have been capped from shelves and some were limiting the number of products that could be bought, Plenković said that the measures were part of the package and that this had been communicated with all relevant retail chains and all relevant producers in the sector, underscoring that this restriction applied only to nine products.

"Small retailers offer thousands of products. Large shopping centres have as many products as you want. I am convinced that, as far as retail chains are concerned, absolutely nothing will happen to them," he said. He also thinks that nothing should happen to producers.

"If there are some difficulties, we will try to resolve them through dialogue with those groups of producers," he said.
