Plenković and Varadkar: Very good bilateral relations between Croatia and Ireland

In Dublin, the Croatian and Irish prime ministers discussed bilateral relations between the two countries, evaluating them as exceptionally good. Plenković expressed satisfaction with the development of trade relations. Croatia and Ireland strongly support Ukraine, and the Russian aggression against that country has given a new impetus to the expansion of the European Union, said Prime Ministers Plenković and Varadkar.

Prime Minister Andrej Plenković was on a one-day official visit to Ireland, where he met with Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar.
 
In a statement to the media after the talks, Prime Minister Plenković said that the Russian aggression against Ukraine has completely changed the position of the members of the European Union, and that of the large members, including the institutions themselves.
 
"Before that, I must admit that there was a kind of closing of that window in terms of speed, and now there is an openness," he added.
 
Varadkar emphasized that Ireland and Croatia firmly support Ukraine, and will support it as long as necessary in its efforts to ensure independence, freedom, democracy and the right to decide its own future.
 
"The key thing is that we agreed that Putin's invasion of Ukraine has affected neighborhood policy and will actually accelerate enlargement," he said.
 
The two leaders also discussed bilateral relations, evaluating them as exceptionally good.
 
Trade exchange in the past year reached more than 172 million euros
 
"Our bilateral relations are exceptionally good. There are 18,000 Croats living in Ireland who contribute strongly to Irish society. They are welcome here and have always been welcome," said Varadkar.
 
Plenković expressed satisfaction with the development of trade relations.
 
"I am satisfied because our trade exchange in the past year reached a high of more than 172 million euros, which is very good".
 
The Croatian and Irish prime ministers also discussed cooperation within the European Union and assessed that thanks to this cooperation in energy policy, Europe will not have to fear for the security of energy supplies this winter.
 
Meeting with President Higgins and the Croatian community in Ireland
 
Upon his arrival in Dublin, Prime Minister Plenković met with the President of Ireland, Michael Daniel Higgins, with whom he discussed political and security challenges for the future of Europe.
 
Later in the day, he visited the Irish Parliament, where he spoke with the Speakers of the House of Representatives and the Senate, Sean O Fearghail and Jerry Buttimer, and ended his stay in Ireland with a meeting with representatives of the Croatian community in that country.
