Plenković in Davos: Despite overlapping crises, Croatia and the world got through 2022 well

Prime Minister Andrej Plenković is participating in the Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos, which traditionally for years brings together world leaders, world economic leaders, heads of international organizations and other relevant actors to find solutions to current global problems through mutual cooperation and dialogue.

After arriving in Davos, Prime Minister Plenković participated in the Informal Gathering of World Economic Leaders (IGWEL) on the topic "How to restart global cooperation", and then in the IGWEL round table where the new energy reality was discussed.
 
During the day, he held a series of meetings with political leaders, businessmen and leaders of international organizations who also participate in the Annual Meeting.
 
At the end of the meetings, Prime Minister Plenković referred to today's events in Davos in a statement to the media.
 
He said that this year's World Economic Forum is taking place in the context and in a year when we are faced with multiple crises that have hit the world.
 
"The Covid-19 pandemic and Russia's aggression against Ukraine are still ongoing, which has consequences on energy, food and ultimately, the most important problem, inflationary pressures. Most of today's informal talks were about how to make international cooperation and global governance better, more qualitative, more efficient, aware of all the divisions that have occurred and the polarizations we are currently facing,'' he said.
 
Energy security, sustainability and affordability - the guiding thread of the Government in the last year
 
He referred to today's two panels - the one on economic growth in current circumstances and global governance, and the one on energy, pointing out that it was dominated by three elements that were the guiding thread of the work of the Croatian Government in the past year.
 
"The first of these elements is energy security, that is, the supply of energy products, in which we succeeded. The second is sustainability - that no situation occurs that would lead to a shortage of some energy source. The third is affordability, and this is what we have done very well and preserved social cohesion in Croatian society, avoided social fracture, subsidized the prices of electricity, gas and oil derivatives and thus enabled our citizens and the economy to get through the crisis", said Plenković.
 
In the first panel discussion on the topic of improving global cooperation in the face of overlapping crises, it was pointed out that Croatia actively participates in the creation of European policies for the purpose of responding to the energy and food crisis and advocates for the strengthening of multilateralism.
 
Finally, he said that the participants of the Forum greeted and congratulated Croatia on its great strategic achievements - entry into Schengen and the Eurozone.
 
Meetings with a number of international leaders
 
During the day, the Croatian Prime Minister had a series of bilateral meetings.
 
With the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, and with the Prime Minister of Montenegro, Dritan Abazović, he discussed the situation in the neighbourhood, expressing Croatia's support for the European and reform path of Kosovo and Montenegro, as well as the desire to continue improving bilateral relations.
 
He also met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Israel, Eli Cohen. Croatia and Israel want to continue building quality relations and strengthen economic cooperation. There was talk of Croatia's presidency of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) in 2023.
 
Prime Minister Plenković also met with the EU's special envoy, Miroslav Lajčak, and with representatives of a number of companies such as Goldman Sachs, Philips and AstraZeneca.
 
Tomorrow, the Prime Minister will participate in the "Diplomatic Dialogue on the Western Balkans" meeting, and a little later in the discussion on "Finding New European Growth", together with the President of the European Central Bank, Christine Lagarde, the Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Mark Rutte, and the Executive Vice President of the European Commission, Valdis Dombrovskis.
