Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic began his visit to Montenegro on Wednesday by meeting with representatives of the Croatian community, expressing satisfaction with the fact that the Croats in Montenegro have a government minister, a member of parliament and mayors, the prime minister's office said.

"The Croats are present in political, cultural and public life, which is very good for their status here and for strengthening ties between the two countries," Plenkovic said, stressing that the Croatian government's support to the Croatian ethnic minority in Montenegro was continuous.

"We want to protect minority rights together with Montenegro, and I expect the Montenegrin government to continue activities that will ensure institutional, financial and project support for the Croats, preserve their identity and ensure their integration into Montenegrin society," Plenkovic said.

He said that the status of Croats in Montenegro was good and that they were the subject of continuous dialogue between joint commissions at the level of the foreign ministries, as well as between Croatia's Central State Office for Croats Abroad and the Montenegrin Ministry of Human and Minority Rights.

Plenkovic arrived in Podgorica to attend a meeting of the US-Adriatic Charter initiative. On the margins of the meeting, he is scheduled to meet with US Vice-President Mike Pence, Montenegrin Prime Minister Dusko Markovic and Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama.
