Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic on Wednesday visited the northern Adriatic city of Rijeka where he met with the head of Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, Zlatko Komadina, and Mayor Vojko Obersnel.

They discussed the LNG terminal project, construction of a new hospital in the city and the project Rijeka as a European Capital of Culture. Plenkovic said that the government was willing to support the projects.

The prime minister said that the LNG terminal, to be built off the island of Krk, would ensure gas supply for Croatia and neighbouring countries and would diversify gas supply in this part of Europe.

Obersnel said he had received maximum support for the project Rijeka as a European Capital of Culture in 2020, while Plenkovic said that the project was an important opportunity for development of the city and the entire county.

Obersnel informed the prime minister about a major water management project, worth 1.7 billion kuna, which will soon be submitted for EU funding.
