Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic extended his best wishes to all women for International Women's Day on Friday, saying that gender equality was one of the fundamental values of the Croatian constitution and that women in all societies should be equally represented as men, particularly in leading positions.

"This is an opportunity for us to recall the position of women in Croatian society and to continue working together in the struggle for the equality, inalienable dignity and rights of women. Equality of men and women is a fundamental value of our constitutional order and is evident in every community, primarily in the inclusion and equality of women in all aspects of social life," Plenkovic said before a cabinet meeting, presenting flowers to women reporters.

The PM said that his government was promoting the economic, political and social rights of women and combating all forms of gender-based discrimination, especially violence against women. He thanked all women in Croatia for their work, commitment and contribution to the development of Croatian society.
