PM lays wreath to mark 26th anniversary of air raid on President's Palace
Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic on Friday laid a wreath at a memorial plaque on the government building, marking the 26th anniversary of a Yugoslav Air Force strike on the President's Palace, the then headquarters of the first Croatian President Franjo Tudjman, who was on the premises at the time of the attack.
"We remember 7 October, 1991, Monday afternoon, when the former Yugoslav People's Army (JNA), in the midst of the Greater-Serbian aggression against Croatia, carried out an air raid on the building which at the time housed the Office of the President," Plenkovic said, recalling that apart from Tudjman, also present in the building during the attack were the then Prime Minister of the Yugoslav Government, Ante Markovic, and the Chairman of the Yugoslav Presidency, Stipe Mesic.
The JNA air raid was aimed at killing Tudjman. One person was killed and four were injured in the attack.
Attending today's wreath-laying ceremony were also several government ministers.
