Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic on Friday expressed satisfaction with the fact that contracts had so far been signed for 53 percent of the current EU financial envelope for Croatia, which amounts to EUR 10.7 billion.

Plenkovic made the statement while speaking to the press on the margins of the conference "Days of Regional Development and EU Funds", organised by the Ministry of Regional Development and EU Funds in the central Adriatic city of Sibenik.

Summing up the five years of Croatia's EU membership, Plenkovic said that contracts for nine percent of EU funds had been signed by October 2016 when his government took office and that now this figure stood at 53 percent. The present financial envelope for Croatia is EUR 10.7 billion.

He noted that a large amount of those funds, namely HRK 7.9 billion (EUR 1.065 billion) was intended for the Slavonia region.

Plenkovic said that efforts were being made to reduce the inequalities and speed up the development of all Croatian counties to catch up with developed EU regions. He noted that his government had allocated HRK 700 million for regional development.
