New Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic took over the office from his predecessor Tihomir Oreskovic on late Wednesday night after 91 lawmakers voted for the new government, 45 voted against and three abstained.

The former premier congratulated his successor and wished him and his cabinet success in their work
.
During the ceremony Plenkovic praised Oreskovic for committed engagement and for having assumed the premiership representing the Croatian expat community.

A 1800-odd-page report on the performance of the Oreskovic cabinet was presented to Plenkovic.

In mid-June, the eighth parliament voted no confidence in the Oreskovic government after the leading Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) called the vote as the then HDZ leadership fell out with Oreskovic over a conflict of interest case involving the HDZ leader, Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Karamarko,

These developments led to the snap election held on 11 September.
