PM Plenkovic congratulates Macron on victory

Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic on Monday congratulated Emmanuel Macron on his victory as the newly elected President of France and wished him success in carrying out his duties.

"On the occasion of your election as President of France, I send you my sincere and warm congratulations and wishes for success in fulfilling your responsible duties," Plenkovic said in his message to Macron.

"The clear result that has brought you to this honourable position confirms that the vast majority of France has opted for European values that we share and to which your country has given an immeasurable contribution from the very start of the European project. Your victory provides a new encouragement to the European Union which, aiming for integration, needs to respond better to the legitimate expectations of Europeans with regard to solidarity, security and equal opportunities," Plenkovic said.

Plenkovic also expressed his satisfaction that they will be able to work on that together, both within the European Council and through bilateral cooperation. He welcomed the strategic partnership between Croatia and France which shows "the excellence of our relations, giving them a privileged framework to deepen our cooperation in all areas and to strengthen the friendship of our two nations."
