PM Plenkovic issues message on Antifascist Struggle Day

Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic on Wednesday issued a message ahead of Antifascist Struggle Day, saying that victory over fascism in World War II had markedly determined the future of modern Europe, the government said in a press release.

By observing Antifascist Struggle Day, we remember the Croatian antifascists who on 22 June 1941 formed one of the first antifascist units in occupied Europe, Plenkovic said, adding that the present-day democratic Croatia was built on those foundations.

He extended special gratitude to those who gave their lives in the struggle for freedom, saying the government will continue to build a society of peace, tolerance and solidarity.

He said that Croatia, as a member of the European Union, promoted the common European values of democracy, social justice and protection of human rights.
