PM Plenkovic visiting Council of Europe

Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic on Tuesday morning began a day-long visit to the Council of Europe by meeting the newly elected president of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), Liliane Maury Pasquier.

The busy schedule of his stay in Strasbourg includes a meeting with the Council of Europe Secretary-General Thorbjorn Jagland, and the Croatian premier is due to address the PACE.

At the end of his visit to Strasbourg, Plenkiovic will meet the president of the European Court for Human Rights, Guido Raimondi.

Croatia was admitted to the Council of Europe as a full member in 1996, and Zagreb is currently chairing the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe from May until November.

The priorities of the Croatian chairmanship are the fight against corruption and organised crime, efficient protection of the rights of ethnic minorities and vulnerable social groups, empowerment of local government as well as the protection and promotion of cultural heritage.
